Hal Bagwell – Head Coach Ardrey Kell H.S.

Hal Bagwell is entering his 7th season as head baseball coach at Ardrey Kell HS in Charlotte, NC. Prior to that he was head baseball coach at South Mecklenburg HS for 10 seasons. In 16 seasons as a head coach, he has 335-124 career record. Along the way his teams have won 5 SW4A Regular Season Championships, 3 SW4A Tournament Championships, 8 District Championships, 5 Sectional Championships, and 4 Regional Championships. His teams have made 4 NC4A State Championship appearances (South Mecklenburg ’99, ’05 and Ardrey Kell ’08, ’09). His 2009 Ardrey Kell team won the NC4A State Championship with a 2-0 sweep over Raleigh Sanderson HS.

During his 16 year career, Coach Bagwell has seen 82 former players play at the next level. Of those players, 13 have gone on to play professional baseball, including 1st round pick Chris Jones (’98, South Mecklenburg).

Coach Bagwell has been selected Coach of the Year by various media outlets and organizations 17 times, including Region 6 Coach of the Year 4 times (’99, ’05, ’08, ’09) and Charlotte Observer Coach of the Year 7 times (’97, ’98, ’99, ’04, ’05, ’08, ’09).

Coach Bagwell has also served as a clinician for various organizations including the Richmond Baseball Bash (’08, ’10), Mizuno Pittsburgh Pa, Baseball Clinic (’09), NCBCA convention (’07), and the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association (’13). Coach Bagwell also served for USA Baseball as a trials coach in 2007 where the 16 and under National team won the gold medal. He currently serves as Assistant Executive Director of the NCBCA.

Mr. Bagwell received his BS degree in Physical Education from Appalachian State University in 1990. He has been married to his wife, Lisa, for 17 years. They have two children Jake and Alexis. Mr. Bagwell resides in Charlotte, NC.
